Message from WNCOE President:

Launch of Interim Website
It is my great pleasure to invite you to
explore the wayamba National College of
Education online through our newly
redesigned website.
Since its establishment in 2000,WNCOE
has enjoyed a proud record of success
and achievement in serving the nation
through human resources development and
institutional capacity building. The
Institute has, for nearly a decade ,
acted as a bridge between the developed
schools and the developing and less
developed schools in the country. With
its multinational dimensional programs
of teacher students, faculty, staff
development, WNCOE offers a unique
multi-cultural context for the exchange
of ideas, the development and transfer
of advanced technologies and innovative
approaches to shared problems. With
globalization and the associated
expansion of political, socio-economic
and cultural ties between the MULTI
ethnic multi religious society of Sri
Lanka and rest of the Island , the
Institute is strategically placed.
However, under the changing landscape of
teacher education and research both in
the island and globally, coupled with
the changing nature of development, it
is important to work for increased
capacity within WNCOE to continuously
learn, adapt and change. Change is the
normal condition of all learning
organizations, and must come both from
the grassroots and from upper management
levels, as well as from our partner
organization, National Institute of
Education and the communities and
stakeholders.
Humankind's problems today are global,
and we must therefore, have an
international perspective in all our
activities. Research and education are
not only about increasing competency
within some discrete knowledge fields.
It is also about cultural differences as
a source and potential for creation,
innovation, critical thinking and
development. Under my presidency, I am
working to increase happiness at WNCOE
by acting for development of cultural
and religious mutual respect and trust,
communication, presence and encouraging
participation. I am in favor of
boundary-less, team-oriented,
organizational structure,
people-oriented and outcome-oriented
structures. We are currently working
towards a system with a minimal
administration of the highest possible
quality, in order to allocate as many of
our resources as possible to core
activities - namely research, teacher
education, and outreach activities.
WNCOE’s future orientation must be
based on teacher education and research
towards the sustainable development of
the Nation , strengthening the
knowledge, development and business
capacity of the Sri Lankan Society , and
supporting communities and their
economic development and integration
into the global economy. To this end, it
is important for WNCOE to have its own
distinct profile in Sri Lanka’s general
Education sector..
WNCOE’s website provides a great deal
of information about the Institute, and
through which we would like to more
effectively communicate the activities
and initiatives being undertaken in the
areas of teacher education, research
and outreach activities. Whether you are
a prospective student, a partner, one of
our alumni, or a first-time visitor, I
invite you to explore the site. The
Institute's website is designed to make
it easy for you to find the information
you need.
L.M. WANSHAWATHIE.
